Workshops and other events

Master Gardeners hold a number of different events where we educate the public, usually for free. All can be seen on our all-events calendar.

Open gardens/workshops (Free!) at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center (FOHC).

Open Gardens give you a chance for you to visit the gardens, roam around freely and talk with Master Gardeners there to help with your gardening questions. We often include mini-tours and demonstrations at Open Gardens.

A Workshop at the FOHC includes speakers giving talks on specific topics.

Harvest Day

Harvest Day (Free!) Speakers, vendors, education tables, food trucks and so much more. This event is held the first Saturday in August at the FOHC.

Harvest Day Sponsors help to make this event a success.

Free "Ask the Master Gardener" Information Tables are offered at locations throughout Sacramento County.  You can get a plant problem solved one-on-one with a Master Gardener. Information Tables are available at all of the FOHC events and are also part of bigger events such as the California State Fair, home shows, garden tours and other community gardening events.

Composting workshops are given at locations all over Sacramento County, often at public libraries. Demonstrations are offered at our FOHC events.

Worm composting workshops, involve a small fee for materials. Learn the fun and benefits of composting with worms and turn yard waste into "Gardener's Gold" and learn the types of bins, how to set up a compost bin, and tips for success.

Special events are fundraising projects for the UC Master Gardeners of Sacramento County.  Usually held at our office or at the FOHC, we charge a small fee, but you learn and take things home with you!
