The Basics of Backyard Composting

Sorry!  This workshop is sold out.

Saturday, March 23, 2019
10 AM - Noon
UC Cooperative Extension
4145 Branch Center Road, Sacramento, CA  95827
(916) 876-5338

The UCCE Master Gardeners of Sacramento County will show you how easy and fun it is to recycle your fruit and vegetable scraps, leaves, and plant cuttings into compost! Composting provides rewarding results with little physical effort.  When added to your soil it helps retain moisture resulting in a lower water bill. Use it to prevent soil erosion, suppress weeds and loosen clay and compacted soils.

What you'll get:

  • A hands-on demonstration on how to build an active compost pile--yes, you are going to build it!

  • You will learn about the different methods for composting and find out if “Hot” composting is the right choice for you

  • A free compost bin and educational materials to take home

$10 per person. Pre-registration is required.
